Aroy-d Coconut Milk 100% Original Net 8.5 Oz.(pack of 12)

Aroy-d Coconut Milk 100% Original Net 8.5 Oz.(pack of 12)

I love this coconut milk. After reading all the reviews I was concerned about mold growth as well as having to use up the milk within two to three days once opened. However these big tetrapack is more cost effective for us than the 8.5oz packs since we use 1 cup of coconut milk a day. Here are the things we are doing to improve the shelf life of this wonderful creamy coconut milk.

1. Once we open the terapack we blend it up in our vitamix blender. You will see in the photo that this milk clumps up because of the high amount of fat. By blending it helps us to make the milk even, smooth and creamy.
2. We then pour the milk in silicone moulds. I think each one is 3.5 ounces and off it goes into the freezer.
3. Once frozen we remove them and put them in a ziplock bag and put them back in the freezer.
4. We take them out as and when we need them.

This method has saved us from worrying about mold growth, finishing it even if we don't need it etc.

I usually need 2 cubes for my smoothies in the morning. It helps to take them out the night before, but there are days when I'm not too good with planning and I end up using those hard coconut cubes in my vitamix with my other ingredients. It does take longer to breakdown that ice.

Caution: If you do not own a high power blender using these frozen coconut milk cubes may break your blender.

I use coconut milk in place of dairy for baking, drinking and as a creamer in my coffee. This does not taste of coconut but instead, to me, tastes even creamier than dair milk. For a lighter product, I pour one carton into a 16 oz bottle and fill to the top with distilled water and shake, then refrigerate. None of the creaminess is compromised, and i'm cutting the caloric intake by more than half. For whipped cream, place unopened, unshaken carton in fridge, let cool overnight, remove, cut open, and spoon the solid product into a bowl. Beat until smooth while adding in powdered sugar (and a bit of pure vanilla extract), and you've got a kickass whipped cream that won't lose its shape or melt into a big globby mess. Divine!

Only brand I have found that does NOT have garbage added. Just pure coconut

I'm so glad I came across this while looking for multipacks of the So Delicious culinary coconut cream. This stuff is thinner than that, but its only ingredients are coconut and water, no gum added, which means you have to shake it and shake it and shake it, but it's also almost certainly easier to digest.
1000 ml is just over a quart, so you need to do a few things once you've opened the carton. It makes sense to me to get it all very well homogenized and then pour into two pint jars plus some change. I have an old gas stove which is always warm because of the pilot, and I leave the carton on there for quite a while before shake-shake-shaking and opening it. If I still lived in a cold climate, I'd probably put the carton in a warm water bath, and then dump all the contents into a saucepan or quart-sized measuring cup and stir together really well before decanting into jars.
It says only good for two days once opened, and I freeze one of the jars (don't fill all the way, and don't screw down tight, put in freezer upright :) ) . That said, I've had it in the fridge for several days with no spoilage, and if I did think it was going to spoil I'd add some probiotic powder and let it become a yogurt-like thing.
For reasons I haven't quite figure out yet, I've had it come out of the freezer and thaw right back to a good smooth texture, and I've had it thaw to a grainy texture that needed blending.
The carton is a little flimsy (another reason it's worth decanting right away) and the six cartons arrived mummified in saran wrap :)
Coconut is my mainstay, and this is delicious and convenient. And affordable. Subscribe and save, please!

Edited to add: I was curious about the perishability disclaimer, so I tried _not_ freezing my second pint jar and just putting it in the coldest part of the fridge. And it hasn't spoiled whatsoever.
In the meantime, though, I also purchased the coconut cream AROY-D 100% PURE Coconut Cream, 33.8 Oz package (3-pack)
It's only available in 3-pack, but it's about the same price and thus better value for money because less water/more coconut. And oh it is so good.
This product (the milk) is just a little thicker than the coconut milk in cartons at the store; the coconut cream is more comparable to the canned coconut milk in terms of thickness. If you want the convenience of pourable milk, or milk that can be quickly made pourable, this is what you need. If you want the creamier stuff that thickens up in the fridge and will need a bit more work to make pourable, and/or if it's your staple food (as for me), the cream may be better for you.

I love this coconut milk HOWEVER, for use in coffee, buy the smaller cartons! These cartons would be great to use in a recipe where you need a lot of coconut milk but they are too large to store or use everyday. Also, there's no way to close the container once it is open and it gets messy taping it shut. One last thing.. the large cartons do separate in the refrigerator which is a problem that I did not have with the smaller cartons. There was also a notice stuck on the carton that says once opened, they only last 2 days.

Description

This 100% pure coconut milk in aseptic packs with no stabilizers, thickeners, gums, or preservatives has won many awards for taste and quality. Unlike most of the coconut milk products available in the US, Aroy-D coconut milk is not diluted, which means no additives are needed. The product is packaged in modern paper cartons to eliminate the issue of BPA contamination that comes with packaging in cans. The shelf life is one year. Consistency is nice and creamy. The 8.5 ounce containers also mean less waste when recipes call for smaller amounts of coconut milk.

UPDATE Feb 2018: I just received a new replacement box of this coconut milk and it is perfect, very smooth and creamy.

Old review:
I have been purchasing this coconut milk regularly for over a year. In previous orders the milk was smooth and delicious and worth every penny. However, the last batch I ordered had a few leaking containers, and the ones that were intact contained curdled, rotten- smelling milk and are completely unusable. This batch had the exact same expiration date as my previous delicious batch.

I received a full refund from Amazon, but I worry if I order some more it will also be spoiled. I hope that this is just a quality control issue and will quickly be fixed.

Happy to find a 100% coconut milk product not in a can.
I transfer it to a clear bottle, give it a good shake before pouring in my coffee, and this works great for me.

It has a really nice heavy creamy texture with a slight coconut taste (which I like).
Perfect for those seeking no guar gum or any other ingredients.

I like this smaller 8.5 ounce size to ensure it gets used before it turns, but (of course), the smaller size is pricier than the 33.8 ounce size by approximately 4 cents an ounce (I know...really? but, yes). Likely, I will divide up the 33.8 ounce size into smaller freezable containers to ensure its freshness.

I've also purchased the Aroy-d Coconut cream and ... WOW... this product after shaking/refrigerating/shaking could go straight onto strawberry shortcake or anything you'd want whipped cream... very rich, doesn't need any added sugar, and could be a bit too irresistible.

I love, love, love this product. No BPA, for sure. Just coconut milk, no gums or fillers or flavorings or other junk. Beautiful and delicious.

UPDATE: It's still delicious, but unfortunately Arroy-D seems to have smartened up, commercially speaking, and the milk no longer contains the cream that used to solidify in the fridge. It's just all smooth coconut milk. You can no longer whip it to make it seem like whipped cream. It no longer fluffs up my smoothies. I'm bitterly disappointed. I'll continue to buy it, but if there's ever another BPA free, pure coconut milk on the market, I'll switch. At this point I'd give it just 2 stars -- to be generous.

I've been using this brand of coconut milk for years. It tastes amazing and is great for being plastic endocrine disruptor-free (because not in a can) and additive free (no gums, preservatives or stabilizers which are bad for your gut). Because it doesn't contain stabilizers or preservatives it goes bad quickly, but can be stored in the fridge safely for two days and I find I can drink a whole 8.5 oz container to myself in my coffee or diluted to make coconut milk for smoothies/cereal in that time frame.

I love that this doesn't taste heavily of coconut and tends to remain as milk even though coconut milk often separates into water and fat. If it does separate (as often happens in cooler ambient temps), soaking in a hot water bath for 5-10 minutes takes care of it. I have small glass jars I transfer the leftovers to to keep the unused portion fresh.

Only think is the most recent purchase from Kah Mart was of inferior quality. It tasted like it had gone bad and was thin and watery. I tried contacting the seller and they did not get back to me in the expected time frame, so I contacted Amazon and they gave me a refund for the inferior product and I ordered a new batch from another seller.

I've been purchasing this product in the same 8.5 oz container monthly for the last 9 months and experienced no issues with quality until this most recently batch (all different sellers). I sure hope it was just the batch which is supposed to expire May 24, 2018 and not a change in product quality overall.

This is by far the best coconut milk I have tried. And it is just that...coconut milk with NO added ingredients! I have food allergies so I needed something pure, and this met those requirements!
