My mother used to make "pecan sandies" every Christmas. They were crescent shaped cookies with pecans and really did melt in your mouth. I have purchased many cookies over the years since she passed, trying to find something that came close with no luck. These "David Meltaways" are so close to my mothers that when I ate my first one I was hit with such a wave of nostalgia that I literally cried. This has really made my Christmas to finally find the "perfect" cookie my Mom used to make.
I'm eating these right now, they just arrived. I was nervous about the quality and state of the cookies after some people were saying these were arriving in a crumbled state. Mine are fresh and so darn good. Inside the tub there are sections which are covered by a plastic seal. These cookies had no chance of tumbling around but if they would have, idve blamed transport not the manufacturer. Good job dudes! The rip in the seal is my impatient @ss haha.
These cookies are a favorite. The packaging has been changed, I can only assume to reduce breakage, the cookies are divided into 4 quadrants
now instead of two, so there was very little breakage.
First of all it annoys me when Amazon Reviewers cannot tell the difference between CRITICIZING the Seller/Shipper for receiving damaged goods (or broken up cookies in this case) and an actual REWIEW OF THE QUALITY OF PRODUCT. This my friends, is a review of the product called Davids Cookies Butter Pecan Meltaways. These cookies are made from and ships from their original bakery, and so it's really not their fault if a Shipper, UPS or USPS ships your cookies and along the way you end up with half-crumbled cookies because the UPS or delivery guy dropped your box a few times.
So on to the cookies. These cookies are similar to (but so much better than) those Mexican Wedding Cookies that are common in many bakeries. The cookie dough is buttery good like the name implies, and has a good amount of crushed pecans to add to its texture and flavor. The powdered sugar coating on the outside completes its delicious goodness. And to my surprise, the addition of the powdered sugar did not make this cookie "too sweet". It was just the right level of sweetness. Be careful, as the cookie does crumble easily after the fist bite, and you will end up leaving some cookie crumbs and white powdered sugar on the floor. The round tin can it came in contains roughly 64 round cookies. And yes, a few of them I received were indeed crumbled to pieces…. but that's to be expected when this large can of cookies is shipped by Amazon from over 300 miles away. That said, the taste and flavor of these cookies are exceptional and hence my 5-star rating.
At first I was tempted to deduct 1 star due to the "high cost" of the single round tin can. And then I realized that the large tin box contains a generous amount of cookies — 64 pieces! That was more than enough to last me a couple weeks, as well as share many cookies with my family and friends/coworkers. In the end, it was very much worth it.
I will continue to order these several times a year, especially during holidays and special occasions.
2018 Christmas, 2nd order, not so great, the color of them is a light brown, they are probably last year's. So sad. I ate some and they taste okay, but Dang, I ended up throwing most of them away. Is there somewhere I can get a refund or make a formal complaint? I'm pretty sure these are old cookies.
OMG, if you have never tried these, you must. I accidentally got a box I meant to send to my mom for Christmas, so we had to eat it... These are highly addictive and PACKED with pecans!

Better than I expected. I read a few reviews that said the cookies were not "fresh". That was not my case. They were extremely fresh!
In fact they did melt in your mouth. These are very traditional, homemade tasting cookies that are a special treat. They are very buttery. I thought they might be too sweet with the powdered sugar, however, that is not the case. Large amount of cookies in one tin. Great gift for yourself or others anytime of the year. I really love these and will order them again.
Oh. My. God. My new addiction! These are delicious!!! I wasn't sure about ordering, I've never had any before. But the name sounded good. But good is an understatement for these. It is going to be hard to not shovel the whole tin in my mouth. And there is a lot in here... soon to be a lot in my tummy.
When I ordered these cookies, I had in mind the small round powdered sugar covered treats I knew as "wedding cookies." It's been a long, long time since having had these cookies cookies and I don't remember if they're the same or not. Frankly, I don't really care now. In February I ordered a tin of David's Butter Pecan Melt Aways and liked them so much, I ordered another tin in March. To be fair to myself, I did share the first batch. Was not as generous with the second batch. Now, I am trying to pace myself. I am going to wait until I have done something that deserves such a reward or until I find myself feeling pretty blue and need a good pick-me-up. Or maybe I'll wait until Tuesday.
This is my first time ordering David's Butter Pecan Meltaways, on amazon. Guess what? I previously ordered these same cookies, directly from David's Cookies, and they were delivered in shockingly poor condition - every cookie was broken, and each of the four sections were filled with cookie crumbs! However, the cookies I received from amazon arrived in PERFECT condition, every cookie was intact, limited cookie crumbles in the four sections, and the cookies were large and incredibly FRESH. Perhaps David's has stepped up their quality control, or they provide better cookies to amazon, but this is where you should buy them if you're a fan of the delicious Meltaways. Highly recommended!
I purchased these cookies for our niece she loves David's cookies and these are her favorites . I have been buying David's for years from HSN . We thought we would give these a try from amazon because I could get them on prime and they will ship in a couple days. :) They arrived fresh and she loved them. She said they were all in one piece not crumbly . Thanks David's & Amazon for having these available for us. Hope you will offer many more David's on Prime in the future . :) I also just received these as a gift and they are so nice not one crumb in the tin they are packed so well to keep them in one piece. I will freeze some of these for eating later. :)
