Works great on my iMac.
Strong metal design that should last.
good sound quality, I didn't hear any hiss created by this device. Only a little bit of his from my microphone.
I was able to plug a normal mic in (2 rings) as pictured. And I was able to plug a pair of apple headphones into the headphone port (3 rings) as pictured. (I haven't tested the mic on my apple headphones with this yet though.)
Everything worked flawlessly and extremely easy.
Customer service was great too. Before purchasing this I asked a question about if this device would work with my microphone and the seller promptly responded with a detailed answer.
How to use this device:
To use this as mic/headphone port on a mac, go to "System Preferences", click on the "Sound" icon, and switch your "Input" and "Output" to "USB Device." (As shown in screen shots)
To use for garage band, go to "Preferences", and click on the "Audio" tab. Switch your input and output to "USB Device." (As shown in screen shots)
For any other program, the set up should be very similar.
Hello amazon buyer, this review is strictly for using this USB audio adapter with the PS4. Which I’m sure it’ll work for the PC too. I do know if your desktop computer speakers make a buzzing noise while they are hooked up to your PC this usb Audio Adapter will make that buzzing noise go away.
I was skeptical after looking at reviews wether or not this little $7 USB adapter would work for my PS4. So I took a chance and bought one. You just plug it into your USB port on the PS4 and works immediately. Simple as that!
What you can do with this usb audio adapter?
Surround sound.
This usb adapter doubles as the same 3.5mm plug in that’s on the bottom of your PS4 controller except you don’t need to have gawdy cables hanging with your wireless controller. You can hook up the audio cord from your computer right into your USB adapter. No need to use a digital optical cable. This works perfect !
Condensor Mic.
I mainly purchased this adapter to hook up a condensor mic. First of all, you do need a 48v phantom power supply if you want this to work with the PS4. You might not need one, but if you want studio quality for your microphone, I highly recommend one. You just plug the audio input cord from the mic, into the adapter, and PS4 recognizes it. It’s literally that easy.
Do you want to use PC headphones on your PS4?
You need this adapter. I used to use a audio/mic spitter with my PC headset BUT those always break after a couple months. Buy this USB adapter instead!
Honestly this USB adapter is everything I needed, plus more capabilities that I didn’t even think of before purchasing. It makes cable management a breeze too. If you are second guessing yourself about buying this for the PS4 take the chance because it’s worth it and works flawlessly.
For 9 dollars, this is a good alternative to a broken/damaged audio jack. Getting a new one welded in would have cost me upwards of 100 dollars, so this is a much cheaper option for a broke college student like me. However, the product isn't perfect. The audio isn't the best quality. It certainly isn't bad, but you can tell it had to take a bit of a detour and sounds slightly muffled, as if you were listening from cheap earbuds. The adapter itself fits quite loosely in its port, but, again, for 9 dollars, you get what you pay for. The audio jacks are also odd-fitting. One of my earbuds fit in very tightly, the other not at all. The mic port fit loosely in both cases.
Overall, this is a decent product. It works, and does its job of giving you an alternative source of audio as well as a 9 dollar piece of hardware can. In terms of audio quality, it's fine. An audiophile would probably throw a fit, but then again, audiophiles don't buy USB adapters or 20-dollar earbuds. For your average Joe, this is fine. Not superb, but far from bad or even unsatisfactory. Fit is a bit more problematic, and will vary dependent upon both device and earbuds/headphones. If you're running a tight budget, I'd recommend it. It's as good as it gets for this pricepoint. If you can throw a few extra bucks down, though, you'd be better off getting a higher quality product. I'm sure this seller has some. Like I said earlier, you get what you pay for, and by and large, it's a good product. Just not without faults.
The headphone jack on my daughter's laptop broke. While I've worked on desktop PC's for many years, I didn't want to try a laptop repair myself. A local technician suggested replacing the motherboard. Uh, no, I'm not going to do that for something this minor, but I had to DO SOMETHING right away. I figured that a USB audio adapter should be easy to find, and it was. I wanted something small and simple, and this product from Plugable Technologies looked like it would work just fine.
It works great. The unit is smaller than I expected, which I am happy about. It barely sticks out from the side of the laptop, the headphones plug right in, and it worked just fine right from the start.
Yes, this was a cheap fix for my daughter's laptop, but cheap only in the sense of price. This little adapter is small and unobtrusive, it looks good, it works perfectly, and my daughter likes the sound quality. I could have paid more for something with more bells and whistles, or I could have even purchased a new motherboard. Either of these alternatives would have been a waste of money. I am very much satisfied with my purchase, and I would recommend this product to anyone who has a need for it.
I dropped my laptop on it's right side where the sound connectors were and damaged the sound card somehow. I tried everything from the software side but sadly the damage was physical so since I need sound to do dictations I immediately ordered a new laptop even though everything else was still working on my old one. After ordering the laptop I continued to research how I might fix this issue figuring the only solution was to replace the motherboard. Lo and behold I discover the USB Audio Adapter. It was delivered today (Sunday) - I plugged it in, plugged in my headphones and VOILA - sound!! Sure wish I had known about this before I spent money on a new laptop. But now I can give my old one to my grandson so all's well that ends well I guess. Do you guys make external speakers too? Thanks!

Description
The Plugable USB-AUDIO is an easy way to instantly gain a headphone and a microphone jack to your existing USB audio class enabled system. Featuring a clean, compact black design, this USB audio adapter installs without needing to load any necessary drivers. It is as simple as setting this adapter as your default audio output and input device and off you go, listening to your favorite tunes and recording with ease.
This audio adapter really shines with custom Linux development boards like the Raspberry Pi, Beaglebone Black, and other unique scenarios such as a "Hackintosh" setup where the on-board audio devices do not have Mac drivers.
Compatibility
No drivers necessary. Compatible with any standard USB Audio Class enabled system including Windows XP - 10, Linux, Mac OS X and Chromebook.
The USB Type A connection gets plugged into the computer and you gain one 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) stereo output jack and one 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) mono microphone input jack.
The USB-AUDIO is USB bus powered, so no external power is needed.
The adapter is not compatible with the HyperX line of headsets due to an incompatible plug configuration for the built-in microphone and their included adapter.
Important Note:
If the microphone does not seem to work and you have a TS microphone, a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) mono to stereo adapter is necessary to adapt the microphone from TS to TRS.
Most operating systems support multiple audio outputs, but only allow a single one to be enabled at a time. So this manual step of selecting the right audio output from the operating system's built-in audio control panel is essential.
I got this for my Alienware Alpha Console, which has no audio input/output ports. Originally that wasn't an issue, until I bought a monitor with no built in speakers, and learned the hard way that Windows 8.1 doesn't like to play more than one sound source at a time through a Bluetooth speaker. This has fixed the problem perfectly, I can now use either headphones or wired speakers with the Alpha Console with no issue doing things like playing a game and using Skype at the same time. All I had to do was plug it in, and then plug in some headphones and the computer recognized them right away.
Okay right off the bat, I'm satisfied with my purchase and given the price I can't complain. But I will give an honest review
Pros:
-Easy Set-up. Literally plug this device into your device, plug in your headphones/mic and it works instantly.
-Small form factor is great.
-No drivers. I'm using the latest Windows 10 Creators Update build, the device is plug/play with no issues.
-Audio quality is Good. No pops, no hiss, no static, no perceivable latency, no problems. Nice and clear experience and nothing I'd consider bad.
-The price. You can't beat what you get at this price point.
Cons:
-Build quality might be a little suspect. Not having any terrible issues, but when I put this into my computer the first time, it was not a snug fit at all that you would expect for an external USB device meant to hang off the side of a computer/laptop/anything. Also, after I put it in the housing (black part) was noticeably not lined up with USB port, it seemed slouch on a downward angle with the weight of the device. I physically corrected this by holding the black base down on a flat surface and pulling up on the metal USB connector until it felt aligned and true.
I'd recommend put it on the side of your laptop that is less likely for anyone to walk into or for something to knock into it.
All that said, I am more than happy with the purchase and would recommend to anyone looking for a cheap no-fuss device to get them through. If you aren't looking to spend $50 and up on the higher quality audio devices like DAC/AMP combos.. this device will suit your needs.
I just received my Plugable USB Adapter. My audio out jack on my laptop was intermittent.I had to constantly play with the audio cables to connect to my bluetooth speakers .I use the external speakers because the sound on the laptop is not that loud. After plugging the USB audio adapter into my USB port,my laptop recognized the device as an audio device. It then installed itself onto my computer .Then i went to my control panel and selected view devices.I saw the device then set it as the default speaker. The whole thing took less than 5 minutes. It works like a charm and i dont have to fidget with the audio jack when i want to listen to music from my external speakers.I would recommend this product to anyone who has a problem on their computers audio jack.I didn't have to open the computer and risk causing more problems, even though i have worked on electronic equipment many years ago when the technology wasn't so small.By the way ,i Googled about my intermittent audio jack problem and that is how i found out about this device.
I purchased the DIZA100 Kotion Each G9000 Gaming Headset for my son for Christmas. He's been asking for it since his online friend got one months ago. It's always great on xmas morning to find out things won't work as planned, through no fault of the seller at least.
His laptop didn't have a mic port, only headphone port. The single plug for the headset would only work as headphones without the mic. His gaming head set did come with a splitter for ppl with a port for each, but that didn't help us at all. He was so disappointed!
He researched and found this little gadget and figured we'd give it a try.
We plugged it in using the splitter that came with his head set. It splits the 1 headset/Mic cord into separate lines- 1 for mic & 1 for Headphones. He plugged each one into the corresponding color on the Plugable USB. On initial plug in it didn't work. I read the directions on the box, always important, and re-read the email the seller had sent me, informing me about changing the settings in my laptop if it didn't work upon plugging it in. I switched the sound settings for mic & speaker in my laptop to unknown USB for both, a screen popped up to set up my mic but it didn't work! He kept trying to make tweaks to the volume and noise suppression etc, then would try to talk to his buddies on discord connecting, disconnecting, then changing them back when they had no effect.
We were both getting frustrated by that point not knowing why it wasn't working. So, I restarted the computer, still didn't work. Darn, that usually works. 😥
I Re-opened the sound setting after restart not fixing it & somehow, and I'm still not sure how, but a screen finally popped up to set up my Mic! Windows 10... I read the line it wanted me to read and it heard my voice! Hallelujah!
It took about 30 min for us to figure it out. Yes, I'm familiar with computers so that was helpful, but I'm no pro by anyone's stretch!
This gadget is worth it's weight in gold now that we figured it out!
I use this for sound effects, driver by a raspberry pi. I've found that a raspberry pi 3B+ can drive three of these, if 2 are on a powered hub and one is plugged directly into the pi. Other combinations, like all three on the hub, caused intense breaking up of the sound on all three. I don't know why. But in this configuration I get 6 reliable channels of audio sound at once, each of which can handle multiple sources, without using even 10% of the pi's CPUs. So far I'm pleased. Sound quality is better than expected - a recording of a wind up mantle clock chiming out the time sounds surprisingly realistic. It struggles a little with wide dynamics like thunder.
