Ordered last December 21st, was shipped by 24th then it arrived by the 28th (was expecting it would come around January, as was stated but to my surprise it came early)..
The laptop came on a medium sized brown box (without any bubble wrap or styro foam to protect it, inside it was the laptop's own box.). Inside it was the usual stuff, charger/paper works/flyer containing the code for the free games and the laptop itself.
Performance:
normal basic usage = 9/10 battery lasts around 5-6hrs.
Gaming usage = 9/10 (i'm not a gamer that plays with graphics intensive titles, just a couple of old games like starcraft 2/ diablo 3/ Yuri's revenge / total Warhammer 2.
*The fans aren't noisy during normal/basic usage, but can be quite loud during gaming sessions.
*As for heat management, my unit's still in good condition it doesn't get that hot but as a precaution and for longetivity I've undervolted it around 125 (min temp is 38 & max temp 84)
All in all this laptop is good both for normal usage and some gaming plus of your in a budget, it has an i5 8300h &1050ti with 8gb ram (upgradable) and a slot for an m.2 ssd.
Got this from an Amazon competitor for $599.99 and took a week tweaking and exploring the GPU capabilities to see if I wanted to keep it. Bottom line, it will play Fallout 76 on a mixture of high/med settings with fps ranging from 50-60 (yes, vsync is enabled. with it disable the fps was worse. go figure). For the price I paid, it is definitely a deal but watch out, the CPU runs hot. You'll definitely want a cooling pad to keep the temps below 90C. The screen is a bit flimsy due to a single hinge so be sure to open it from the top center of the screen and not the corners. I also noticed a minimal mount of bloat-ware.
I'll describe different situations in which you'll use this laptop in the following review. (Kinda detailed review incoming)
-When gaming:
Fortnite FPS epic settings: ~80 (with low, it was only around 90-100)
Insurgency FPS high settings: 80-300 depending on the map and what you set individual graphics settings to
Total War Warhammer II high settings: ~40
BEWARE that playing at very high settings on games like these can get your computer very hot. Try to keep it around 60 degrees Celsius, but since this is a laptop, 75 is acceptable and 80 would probably be the max if I were you. Why not 90? Well sure, go for it if you want maximum performance but I also want the parts to last 4-5 years.
LAPTOP COOLING PAD IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I have a Kootek one - just be sure to get a good one.
Perhaps replace thermal paste/grease if you are tech-savvy.
Battery lasts like an hour or 2 when gaming. Be sure to be plugged in.
-When idle:
The battery on complete idle seems to last 6-7 hours with battery saver on and on 2 brightness.
Idle temperatures are around 40 degrees C, and are normally lower than said number.
-When working/(school or studying)
Under working conditions like tabs opened on Chrome, it will last 3-5 hours. Possibly bring your charger with you to school or such if needed for a whole school day. Good processor and a good amount of RAM allow work to be done quickly.
-Other (mostly for more tech-savvy things):
Buy an SSD if you will and put it in the m.2 slot. SATA or PCIe NVMe work great. I changed it to boot and get 10 second boots whereas hard drive was giving me 30 seconds (trust me, that 30 seconds would turn into 1 minute if I actually started filling it up with files). No screw to keep down the SSD. You'll have to get your own.
Again, replace the stock thermal paste with your better one.
Be sure to check out power options under control panel to control CPU processor management, and to manage sleep/hibernate settings for maximum battery life.
Mine came with a Thunderbolt USB port so I could hookup an external monitor if wanted.
Screen is 60hz. However playing up to 120fps is good since mouse input lag is reduced and I'm pretty sure you won't experience screen tearing unless you're getting a very high amount of frames or if GPU/CPU are putting in some serious work.
Beware the screw cases seem to strip easily. Maybe I'm just a rookie, but I accidentally budged it the wrong way 2-3 times and the screw got stripped enough for me to use retrieval methods.
Do install the drivers in HP Support Assistant like Intel storage, graphics, and NVIDIA graphics.
Since this is an American laptop, you'll need a switch/plug converter, if you're like me who lives in New Zealand.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading and be sure to make an informed decision. Best of luck with your buy.
I have bought 2 of these now in the last couple weeks. first one was for my personal use the second was for a buddy who liked mine soo much he had to have one of his own. First off they are actually better than i expected for the price, quick booting and decent frame rates in every game i have tried. I have yet to drop below 60fps for anything i have played on mine with most settings on high. i have world of warcraft on ultra and consistently stay in the upper 90s fps but have dipped as low as 76. I can say they do definitely accept a nvme ssd since i have upgraded mine with a crucial p1 500gb nvme drive and it is my boot drive, i have also added a pair of crucial 8gb ram chips making it a total of 16 gb ram. you could just add one 8gb chip though to make yours 16gb. i just wanted a matched pair and tossed my old one in my buddies laptop. I would recommend this laptop to anyone who is looking for a budget gaming laptop.
Sound is decent but not great it seems a little tinny but that is expected since its a laptop. when you plug in a set of headphones though the sound is full is clear.
i hope this review helps you make your decision.
I just received the laptop today and currently installing everything that I need on it. The laptop is quick and works extremely well. I really liked how the packaging was in the box to keep the laptop secure. There is a review saying that the product is misleading, however the processer is Intel Core i5-8300H. I'm extremely impressed with the price that the laptop was on here compared to other places, plus you get free games. I'd highly recommend this gaming laptop if you're in the market for one. I'll update this review once I start gaming, however on day 1, I'm impressed and it exceeded my expectations.

For the budget this is a amazing laptop for gaming, i'm a proud owner of this.
Just one small gripe; one you can become to be accustomed to and care for it's need.... Battery.
It drains really fast, 10% can go in 10-25 minutes... a little scary.
But it's worth it to feed the beast, and keep it well fed.
And if you set it to the lowest battery setting, games go to 30 fps, which is great if you wanna game without surely crucifying your battery. i'm an ascetic minimalist, so i can go without 60 fps all the time.
One tip if you're installing games; have the computer on the highest setting of the battery, because steam will install the game on your motherboard graphics and not your dedicated GPU.... Games will be 10-15 fps and you'll get frustrated, just listen and don't learn the hard way.
Just received this laptop last night, all the product details were correct (such as it being i5-8300H). I also received 5 new games which was pretty cool and had 2 games I was actually going to buy on my own. The laptop when undergoing something intensive (like a lot of downloads) does begin to run hot but I used a laptop fan and it became no issue. I like the feel of the keyboard and I like the green colors, the screen only has one hinge in the middle and not at the sides which was a new design for me. I recommend being careful with how you open the screen probably not a big deal when it's new but over time you might run into screen issues if you continuously open it incorrectly/rushed. Overall I think it's a great laptop for it's price and will be good for any entry level/mid level gamer. Will update this if anything else pops up!
I just received my laptop. So far it looks amazing and good. It came in perfect condition no problem or anything like that. I'm almost done setting it up and everything seems so perfect I'm so glad i got this gaming laptop. Now i can play games with high FPS and not have problems lagging. My only downfall was it took little to long to come but it was definitely worth the wait!
the laptop looks great, really great for the value .
since some are asking, 2 ram slots, M.2 ssd ,i5-8300h,1050 ti are there.
I only played
tropico 5 at highest graphics(150 fps) (max 50 C)
AC black flag at highest graphics (65 fps) (max 78 C)
I didn't really do heavy gaming to give feedback on thermal throttling .
doesn't support windows hello, no finger print , and SSD makes a huge difference to overall performance .
Here's the good: (Based on Day 5 Of Purchase)
The laptop is slimmer than I expected which fits nicely into my backpack. All functions work properly, I like the backlit green keyboard, all my apps work fine, I'm able to play the games I want, and ultimately I feel very satisfied with my purchase.
Here's the great: I CAN SYNC MY BLUETOOTH! Meaning I have change the volume of sound and music to completely isolate me to my work! So great!
I've yet to get an additional 8 GB ram card to install but it is upgradeable, however I'm not currently sure what type of ram card is acceptable.
Here's the not so good:
I don't think the battery lasts as long as it says, I've not given a thorough testing but it does go for 3-4 hrs right now, which I'm still fine with. I discovered a funny trick that can be good or bad. I turned off my laptop but I kept the cord to my cooling fan plugged into the one usb port on the right side of the laptop. Funny enough the fan was still taking energy from my "turned off" laptop to keep it cooling. Be weary of that and test it for yourself. Also, the screen is flimsy (I don't fully mind personally because it means less heavy) and for some people it may be a bit heavy but for me it's fine.
Ultimately: I highly recommend for gamers on a budget. It's good to have a gaming style laptop that can handle daily tasks easily. I've yet to face any problem, however, I've only had this for 5 Days.
