This is actually a 5 star printer, easy to set up and connect to your wireless network at home, My only negative experience with this item is that there is no software packed in the box, and you are instructed to go to HP's 123 setup website to download software. Well I got there fine, but when I clicked on the install software, I ended up with "page no longer available". The has "support chat" pop up's that will not go away, and constantly blocking the print on the website so you can't read it as to what to do next. I finally started a chat, and of course they want the serial number, etc...so got to get all that out....well the "support" was absolutely useless, and finally got on the phone with them, and of course it is a tech that I can hardly understand due to language issues, and always talking too fast. This should have been a simple "go the hp.com, go to support, and download the drivers for your model" kind of instruction. But the support tech wanted to assist with remote access to my computer, and even after that, he gave me a lot of questionable information that it couldn't be done on my computer, or some such nonsense. I am not technically impaired, and have downloaded drivers and software for devices many, many times, and this 123 site was not only poorly functioning, but their support made a simple process very complicated for no reason. I closed the session and said I would find what I need at their official site. Went to HP.com and downloaded the drivers and software for the printer, and it went just fine, with no problems at all. So. I would not recommend the 123 hp website to install your drivers for this printer, it was not a good experience for me, at any rate.
Before I even opened the box I said to my husband how much I hated setting up printers. I am tech savvy and find that printer set up is never easy. I find them quirky and there is always something that just doesn't go right. I was fully prepared for this to be a big pain in the neck but I had to get it done. I waited until half time because I knew it was going to take me half the day and I had it set up and printing in ten minutes, to say I was presently surprised is an understatement. It is printing from my computers, it is printing from my phones, it is working from the ipads. I can say that the print doesn't seem quite as dark as it was with my canon pixma (pain in the neck printer) but I will take slightly less quality for the ease of set up and for what I do it doesn't matter so much. I will say that this is not a laser printer and it doesn't have the speed of a laser printer but the photo quality was nice, and the print quality was fine for me. It came with a manual and I could easily access all menus. The scanner menu showed up on my computer without a problem and it did take a few secibds but scanners do have to warm up so I expected that. I do not find this printer to be regressive at all, and for the price it will do everything that the average user wants. I print documents, charts, powerpoints, some images (usually not photos) and templates. I do a great deal of resizing of images and scanning and I have tested all of these features and have had no issues. Personally I don't care about the color of the actual printer and I certainly don't want to pay more for a pretty color.
I have had many HP all in one printers. I must say that this model is working better than any HP model I have had in the last five years. I print about 200 to 300 pages a month. So far, no jams, and it stays connected to my wireless system without a problem.
Really like this printer so far. I was comparing this one to the new Cannon TS9120. I really liked the cannon design, features, etc. until I read a review that explained the printer does not maintain its connection to be able to AirPrint. I had a cannon that had the same issue and you would need to go to the printer and turn it off and then on.
This HP has a good design, prints well, and most importantly stays "awake" on the network. We mostly print from our phones so this is important.
Setup was easier than I was expecting. Just download the HP app and it walks you through.
Nice job on this printer HP! There's so many cheap junky ones out there.
I never thought I'd be writing this review let alone a positive one, let alone a 5 star one. Until now, every single Inkjet I've purchased essentially worked well enough until the ink ran out, but replacements were always on sale and were cheaper than new ink cartridges.
For this 'benefit', the printers would lack speed, the ink would start to run not too long after use and perhaps it's b/c I didn't like them, but I think all of them were single instance devices.
The Envy arrived and I didn't have particularly high expectations but it did look cool. It only took about a minute to unbox, and another minute to have setup ready for installation. This is where things got interesting.
It allowed you the option to cable connect to an existing network or if you had Wi-fi, you could join the network wirelessly. The screen on the device walked you through setup wizard style and had a amazingly easy to use & effective interface. When I say this, I really mean it b/c I haven't used such an easy interface on a printer before (it's reminiscent of high end office copiers that have network storage on them).
In any case, you walk through the wizard, receive a network connectivity confirmation and it then installs updates and callibrates itself. After that process is complete, a test page is printed to verify the calibration coupled with all the information about the printer that you'll need, including an email address you can use to send documents to and have it printed up. Yes, I said that right. You can send documents to an email and have them printed with this device. Amazing for a device that took two minutes to unpackage and install and another 2 minutes to hook into your network.
After that, you are encouraged to install the corresponding app to print with. This allows you to print from an iOS or Andriod device whether it's a tablet or a phone, and you can do a good bit of management of the printer from it. Unlike many network printers where you have to log into a web page or go through a lot of hassle to manage things, you can do most everything through the Printer's screen interface or through the app - and once you are on the internet, things are embarrassingly easy.
Print quality is the last issue and I still find myself shocked. This package included glossy picture paper of 4 different sizes. The quality was striking but the features I found the coolest were.... Have an old picture in a frame that has moisture or humidity issues? Put the picture inside the printer, scan it and print it on glossy paper. The photo equivalent of a 3D printer, you just made a copy of your picture. While it's very helpful for old pictures, you can also do it on newer ones, save the digital file and now you can have a second copy as well as a digital one that you can print at later dates. It may sound mundane, and I guess to some extent it is, but it's the simplicity and efficacy that make it so useful. It's like having a Drug Store Photography shop in your house, that you can manage from a phone.
The picture quality , particularly on the glossy paper is superb. For most pictures, it easily rivals anything you'd see at the average drug store and actually exceeds the quality of things I've had professionally done just a few years ago.
I had very low expectations for this device despite the fact it was HP. I was wrong, and everything, particularly the small easily overlooked details was remarkable. I still can't believe I liked a printer this much.

Overall pleased, but this printer was shipped with a software flaw. Continually flashes a warning that the printer is out of paper. Have updated the firmware, checked and cleaned the paper handler, and read on-line forums that others have a similar problem.
I just got this printer and so far I love it. It was easy to setup and the print quality is great. I run a home-based business and I need a good, reliable printer that doesn't take ups too much space.... so far, so good. Because it's wireless, I can place it anywhere in our home. I like the fact the paper is kept in a closed drawer and the interface is touch-screen.
Looks well made and like the white color. Fits in with decor very well. Pretty much plug and play which makes it so easy to set up. Cartridge'sl install easily - wireless setup on one IMac and three MacBooks pretty much automatic. Also prints from iPhone easily My three daughters and I have been using for over a week now. Print quality is great - has been used to print primarily college papers and briefs. Have used color a couple of times and quality looks great on regular paper. I haven't printed anything on photo paper yet (probably won't use for that) so cannot comment on photo quality. Paper loads easily and fit is nice. Copier works well. Touchscreen easy to use. Time will tell. It seems like these printers last for about 5-6 years but at this price I can live with that. Overall very pleased with this printer.
Works great! Other one printed everything okay but photo paper always ended up jamming. This one does a great job on photos as well as all else.
Now THIS is what I’m talking about! Originally purchased a Canon, similar price and model, could not get it to connect.
So I bought this one instead based on way fewer 1 star reviewers (hardly any and that’s rare for a printer)
Very easy setup. I could not even believe how easy it was to setup on my iPhone and my iMac.
Working 10 mins, I was all set and had printed a gorgeous color photo of my dog from my iPhone on thick nmatte paper. I’ll probably buy the off brand ink, so this thing will save tons of money also. Photos attached. Attractive and easy setup. No complaints yet!
