I admit, I was a little leery buying $100 device for roughly half due to be "renewed".
I was pleasantly surprised when it came and I opened it. It did come in a plain brown box that looks like it was
specially made for it. The remote brand new, batteries brand new, JBL headset brand new, the Roku Ultra itself
did not have a single scratch, mark or any kind of damage. I hooked it up. turned it on, it did a few things, gave
me a code to connect it my account and just worked fine.
One of the best Roku Ultra deals out there. I wish I needed another one so I could order before these are gone
or the price goes up.
I guess it is possible that some "renewed" devices could show signs of wear and tear but I was not too concerned since nobody every really looks at a Roku once it is in use. I decided to save a significant amount and order the renewed Roku Ultra. Mine arrived on time and it looks brand new. It was simple to replace my old Roku II and now I wonder why I waited so long. Setup was managed entirely by following on-screen instructions. The Ultra way faster than the old Roku. The old one had a bad habit of "freezing" right in the middle of a movie. The new one has yet to stutter on a single frame. Even though my current TV can only display 1080p, the image is much sharper and motion is smoother than with the old Roku. I love the default screen saver aquarium ... I could leave that on all day. I do use an entertainment receiver that drives surround sound speakers and I have not figured out how to control its volume with the Roku remote. The control signals are supposed to go through the HDMI cable but I have yet to locate the right settings to get that to work. It is a minor issue since I usually use a "smart" remote to control everything. 4 stars on the voice recognition because I am still learning just what it can and can't do ... that is pretty much a discovery process.
Simple to setup and once connected it worked with out issue. 5th verison I have bought and they are always getting better. The new remote is great with tv power and volume. Highly recommend!
My 4th Roku but first Ultra. So far so good
still learning how to use it

Description
great for wired lan.
I purchased a Roku Ultra to replace an aging Plex client box, and was happy enough to buy another for my bedroom TV and found the (renewed) listing for $20 less, and figured I'd try it. The roku looked brand new, except for coming in a generic brown cardboard box. Now I need a third Roku Ultra, and I went immediately to the renewed listing. $20 is $20, why spend more for no real reason.
