Loma Linda - Plant-Based - FriChik (42 oz.) – Kosher

Loma Linda - Plant-Based - FriChik (42 oz.) – Kosher

Best my husband has ever had and he has been eating vegetable alternatives to meat since 1987. He was sure it had real meat inside, I had to show him the can ingredients label! I made it in a skillet with a light coat of whole wheat flour and a little salt in a smear of olive oil. Served it with corn bread dressing, green beans, mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy. It was terrific!

Texture was great and it held up till cut with a fork. I plan to make some more tonight using home made Asian Bar-B-Q sauce.

FYI for those with Gastric Bypass issues.....I have problems digesting many things due to a surgically restricted esophagus, but this went down easy and stayed down! I was able to eat a whole serving (2 pieces) giving me 12 gr protein. I make mashed potatoes with Greek nonfat yogurt to add more protein to my meal as well. One serving of each gave me 20 gr protein for the meal.

My husband is a vegetarian, and he used to really like salisbury steaks; turns out this stuff tastes similar and he loved it! It is great on sub rolls with mashed potatoes, and he even just eats it by itself. Turns out our dog loves them too! It is a VEGETARIAN product, not a VEGAN one, so they might use some egg or milk in processing, but we still consume milk and egg so it works perfectly for us. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a vegetarian meat substitute that is shelf stable. Awesome product!

Love the texture and flexibility that this high vegetable protein offers! It is ready to eat. I cut this high complete plant protein in small squares and/ or cut into strips. I then add vegan mayonnaise, diced carrots and celery, some garlic powder and lime to taste. Stir all ingredients and ENJOY with crackers, pita bread, toast...Slices of avocado and/or tomatoes with this is excellent too!
I always order a few of these, because I like to have at least one extra in the pantry for those times when I do not feel like cooking and/or when I have visitors. My son LOVES IT!!! Unlike his mother, my son is NOT a vegetarian/vegan and yet he could perhaps eat it everyday!!!

This stuff has been around for many years, and it's still one of the best. I just wish the sodium was lower. 430 mg. in two pieces. The average person could easily scarf 4-5 of them. It's made from GMO soy. If you're concerned about that, the Loma Blue line is non-GMO. But it also has pretty high sodium.
This product is more expensive per ounce than real chicken, but if you're a vegetarian and you crave meat because of the programming in your youth, it's a pretty good choice. It's good in stir fry. You can also dredge the pieces in egg and flour and make chicken nuggets in a saute pan. Or you can slice it and throw it into a pot of brown rice and veggies.

Wonderful quality product. Taste is amazing. However, even after the coupon, it is extremely expensive for the amount that you get. As much as I love this product, I probably won't buy it again.

We were so happy to see these are still available Reminds me of my sweet mother -in-law. Back in the late 80's, I was new to the vegetarian cooking scene. Lomas linda products were some of the few meat substitutes around. I invented several recipes with Fri Chiks. One of my now husband really loves the FriChik pot pie I created.

This stuff is fantastic! The broth makes for a nice gravy with a few spices and some flour to thicken it.

I know it looks weird and is sort of expensive but I like this product a lot. It may not be chicken-y really but i have put it in soup and on top of noodles and it's great . You can also reuse the broth inside the can
That said I wouldn't buy it again. It's flavorful but I can make more tofu in a larger amount for cheaper.

As a new vegetarian, I miss the texture of meat. This is really close. I rinsed the broth off and made chicken nuggets with them. I added them at the end of cooking to soup and stew with good results. I wanted to give them five stars, but they aren't really meat.

I grew up eating these and so glad Amazon offers them since they are hard to find. My can contained 16 FriChiks. I used 8 in a noodle recipe and froze the remaining 8. Will buy again.
