Samsung MUF-128AB/AM FIT Plus 128GB - 300MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive

Samsung MUF-128AB/AM FIT Plus 128GB - 300MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive

Very small drive. Read speeds close to advertised. I got sequential reads on the 256GB drive in the low to mid 290s MB/s. I got write speeds just under 60 MB/s (sequential). I'm getting random read and writes between 13 and 15 MB/s. See screen shot from Crystal Disk Mark 6.

Write speed was not advertised - specs just say "write speed is lower than read speed". Yeah, less than helpful. I'd prefer to have the write speed advertised so that we can make a more informed purchase. I hope my test helps you all out.

At this price point and for a drive so small I'd say this is a decent purchase. You get huge capacity in a small form factor with write speeds that are in the ballpark of the SanDisk Extreme Pro. If you don't need to consistently write large files - this may fit the bill. If you need faster sustained writes, don't mind a larger drive, and have an extra $35 - maybe the SanDisk Extreme Pro is for you.

Unlike SanDisk's **FAIL** in this same space with their recent new one, this has a metal body and seems to be more responsive, etc. over the other. You're better served with this one over the other brands there on this.

This is still tickin-kickin' after three weeks of use as my external store on my NVidia Shield TV unit- SanDisk's comparable? Plastic case (which I was dubious about) welded around the circuit board? Baked itself to death in only a week's time. Get this one, folks- same rough price, slightly faster, and a hack of a lot more robust.

I have over 14 thousand photos and wanted to both have them available to work with on a smaller Chromebook that could be easily transported as well as having a back up should something happen to the main computer on which the images were stored. I had put part of them on a mini SD card which was "top of the line" for speed and is still the smallest storage device around, just a couple years ago. It took FOREVER so I ended up transferring only the parts I would be working with that week. 256 GB will hold a lot!
After a lot of research and reading reviews, I thought this Samsung product would be the best for my uses. (Particularly as it was going to be used in a Chrome book which needed increased memory to function completely for my purposes.
I am simply shocked at how fast this device transferred from my laptop all those photos. It is simply so easy to use. Personally I didnt find the size once plugged into my Chromebook to be overly large. It is about the same size as the doodad used for the bluetooth function on my mouse.
My laptop had both 3.0 and 2.0 USB ports. For the heck of it I transferred data from both ports. Definitely the 3.0 port is noticeably faster. Sometimes when the super computer literate do reviews they provide information on speed, but I don't know if the difference is really noticeable by anyone other then to that high level reviewer. The time difference is vastly improved and you will notice the difference.
I just downloaded a 9 hour video this morning and again I was so shocked at how quickly it downloaded. If you download movies for your children to watch on trips, this device is a most have as it will allow you to do so quickly. Plus the storage capacity on this is wonderful.

I bought this for the usb port in my car to hold music instead of packing around my binder of cd's. It was a little tricky to load on my computer to begin with. Had to use the port in the back of the tower. However, once that got sorted out loading it was easy and fast, even loading whole cd's. It holds alot of music, *alot of music*! It registers with my car really fast so there isn't alot of wait time. It's low profile, doesn't get in the way of anything at all, most of the time I forget it's even there. Very well worth the price. Would order it again.

These drives are very fast but do run a bit warm. One thing to be aware of is the width of the head. Because the keychain loop is on the side instead of the front, they are slightly too wide to allow 2 or more drives to be inserted into an inline hub, such as a sabrent 4 port USB 3.0 hub with the individual port switches, without having to insert them at a slight angle. They will fit but are not in a flush straight line. If you are using a hub that stacks (not inline) ports on top of each other, this is not an issue.

I was a big fan of the prior version, and bought a few of them. The new version is faster and cheaper, but also much larger. Samsung took a unique product and sacrificed what made it great.

This thing is tinywith a very unobtrusive footprint which is great (especially for use in cars). If you are going to load music on it for your car, I recommend checking with your car manufacturer either in the user manual or online using make/model/year of your car and the search term "USB file format". Some vehicles read FAT32, some read exFAT. It's important to know else your car won't be able to play the music. This samsung drive is EXFAT. but don't let that dissuade you from getting this drive since you can easily reformat the file system with a computer and free file formatting software. Read/write speeds are fast and it feels durable. It does not come with a cap. I deducted one star for the hole where one can attach it to a keyring since the space is too narrow. Samsung should have included a small enough ringwith the drive.

The new Fit Plus has more capacity than the previous Fit version but at the expense of a larger head.

My love of the previous version is based in large part to that flusher fit. I use these in laptops where a USB drive sticking out from the computer can be a leverage point if dropped or bumped.

I don't check the speed via any software but know it is plenty fast for my usage.

I ordered the 32gb one. It's very small and fits perfectly in my little laptop. I bought it only for the purpose of having a fast way to back up all my files once a month. I don't plan on using it much other than that. My other USB thumb-drive was bulky and it seemed really slow. I'm not tech savvy so I just went by the reviews when I bought this. I will tell you though that the speed of your computer also matters a great deal...my last laptop was what I was using my old thumb drives for and they would take over 5 minutes to transfer simple files and over 1 hour to transfer a few 1,000 photos. But I did notice that with my brand new laptop my files all transferred in 15 seconds and my photos in 2 minutes. So...i guess my thumb drives were never the issue to begin with. So consider that when looking for something "fast'

I can't say whether or not this thumb drive overheats because I'm not going to keep it plugged in. I find with a lot of these new computers, especially 2 in 1, everything overheats eventually . It is pretty discreet looking once it's plugged in though which is nice. It's very difficult to remove, you can't just pull it out. I think that's not only because of how small it is but also because it just fits so much tighter then my other USB thumb drives. You just need to wiggle it back and worth to get it out, not a deal breaker.

This is way too much typing for a reveiw on something so tiny so that's all I'm going to say. If my opinion changes I'll update my review but for now I reccocmend this.

The first thing that I did when I got this jump drive was to run a read and write test. This drive is advertised as having read speeds up to 200 Mbps so I was excited to see that in fact this was the read speed I obtained with a 16 Mb file. The laptop I used is a Dell Inspiron 3180. I had purchased a 32 Gb TF card for it but I soon learned that TF cards operate at much slower speeds than do USB 3.0 drives. This 64 Gb USB drive is actually version 3.1 which is probably why it ran faster than my other 3.0 USB drives. Basically, this USB drive is the fastest external drive that you can use that is not a hard drive.

One other nice thing I like about this USB drive is its small size. While not as small as my other Samsung USB drive (which only reads at 20 Mbps) it is only about half an inch wide and an inch deep. I can keep it attached my my laptop and it does not interfere with the sleeve (case) that I use to carry around my laptop. I plan on getting additional drives like this one. I think that 64 GB is the best size-to-performance-to- price combination I have found anywhere. I don't have a need for a 128 GB USB drive and its much higher cost would not justify buying it, either. The HD in my laptop is only 32 GB anyway, so I'll use this 64 GB USB drive to keep my HD backed up on a regular basis.

In short, BUY THIS DRIVE!!! YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!
